Ballara Art and Lifestyle Retreat is beautifully restored 1910 stone homestead, a private asset for the people of Southern Yorke Peninsula to utilise for connection, learning, leisure, events and inspiring creative pursuits.

Ballara is also a beautiful place for visitors and adventurers to stay and enjoy the unique rural, remote and untouched coastal setting of Southern  Yorke. Ballara’s hosts specialise in creating memorable, authentic experiences that leave guests relaxed yet inspired by all that surrounds them.

On the grounds

Ballara’s generous grounds encompass a large, charming semi-enclosed verandah overlooking manicured lawns, fields that meet the sea, old stone walls and buildings, gardens, a fire pit and a gorgeous old barbeque shelter. There is also a multi-purpose studio fit for music, performance and visual art classes and a beautiful gallery and gift store, Baker Bros.

Gallery

Embracing mostly local artists and their beautiful, locally crafted works. Ballara’s scope for hosting private events, workshops, children’s art classes, the artist residency programme, simple accommodation and experience-driven accommodation packages, art exhibitions, community events, weddings, corporate getaways, staff training sessions, parent getaways, studio hire and the Gallery / Gift Store makes this beautiful destination a ‘must-see’ for any resident or traveller to the Yorke Peninsula.

History

I’ve been very fortunate to have inherited my grandparents century old home, Ballara – my grandmother named it after her home town of Ballarat, just dropped the ’t’! She requested the home be completely finished and furnished before her arrival…wise woman! Ballara was the home of William and Millie Baker and their 5 children. It remains in the family currently being cared for by granddaughter, Steph.

“I have created Ballara Art & Lifestyle Retreat to offer art & photography related holidays and getaways to our beautiful corner of the world.”
Ballara is also available for accommodation only, sleeping up to 6 people, ideal for 3 couples or 4 friends.

Location

Baker Bros. Gallery is situated in the Top Shop, Main Street, Warooka.

The shop was built and named by brothers William and Alfred Baker serving as a general cash store. A stocktake book still in the shop lists everything from ladies underwear to sheep dip!
