Barley Stacks Winery

A short drive from the historic town of Maitland on the Yorke Peninsula you will find a hidden gem – ‘Barley Stacks Wines’.

Barley Stacks Wines was born in 1996, the brain child of local farmer and comedian Rod ‘I wouldn’t be dead for quids’ Gregory and his family. Current owners, Lyall Schulz and family purchased the winery and vineyard in 2008 – Lyall came from a farming background and having no experience in operating a winery and vineyard this project was a new challenge.

The wine produced at Barley Stacks Wines is made from the grapes grown in the Barley Stacks Wines vineyards, which are crushed, fermented, stored and bottled right on site. This onsite process allows for strict quality control of all facets of wine production. The vineyard has a strong focus on environmental sustainability and ensuring leading edge technology is utilized to maintain consistency in producing high quality wines.

Barley Stacks is proud to employ four local people who assist in the growing and making process as well as employing many other locals for events when they need more hands on deck.

They have an eclectic range of other local products available in their cellar door including  salts and seasonings from MBC Foods, Rosevale Lentils, Martha’s Market Kitchen home baked goods as well as offering beverages from Watsacowie Brewery, Yorke Premium and Sunny Hill Distillery for events.

Like many other local businesses Barley Stacks has had to adapt to keep trading during the period of Covid-19 shut downs.  Due to their Cellar Door being open for take aways only they started offering a white or red wine starter pack as well as a cellar door favourites pack, these six packs of wine are not only discounted but delivered free to your door.
